This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.
As a Network Designer with MNIT, you will play a key role in shaping and maintaining the network infrastructure that supports MNIT and its customers. In this role, you will plan, design, and implement advanced Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) systems. You will be responsible for making strategic decisions that enhance network performance and reliability while ensuring seamless connectivity across MNet’s wide area network services. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor and train Information Technology Specialist staff, sharing your expertise in WAN, LAN, and WLAN services. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to critical network solutions that drive innovation and connectivity.
This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:
Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in network design, automation, and management.
Experience must include:
Experience in Cisco WAN/LAN/WLAN Administration.
Experience with TCP/IP network protocols, including network addressing standards and IP administration.
Ability to analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex network issues using tools such as Catalyst Center and other SNMP management systems.
Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communication technologies, particularly in MPLS or TCP/IP router networks.
Experience with programming languages and Perl scripting, with the ability to automate network tasks and processes.
Experience with network management tools, particularly Cisco Catalyst Center and similar SNMP-based systems.
Understanding of data communication protocols and network equipment, with a focus on end-user equipment functions.
Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting router and switched networks, specifically within Cisco environments.
Advanced knowledge of network equipment, including routers, gateways, and switches, with the ability to implement and optimize these components in a network environment.
