Fairview Health Services Laboratory Care Technician - Mobile in St Paul, Minnesota

Overview

M Health Fairview Reference Laboratory is looking for an experienced phlebotomist to join our Mobile Care Team.

This is a part-time, benefit eligible opportunity, 48 hours/2 weeks, to work the day shift from 4:00am – 12:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays with weekends as needed, with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts and/or overtime. Schedule may vary/change to meet needs of the department.

Responsibilities Job Description

Working with diverse populations within a healthcare environment, the Mobile Lab Care Technician plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional services in keeping with M Health Fairview values as they interact with our patients, families, and co-workers. The MLCT performs laboratory specimen collection for home bound or nursing home patients throughout the Metropolitan area supported by M Health Fairview. Responsible for and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems. The Mobile Lab Care Tech’s attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the MLCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving M Health Fairview's goals.

Job Expectations:

  • Obtains blood specimens for all identified patient populations and ensures specimens are acceptable for testing including following proper identification measures

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the clinical laboratory and understands medical terminology

  • Demonstrates a rapport with the patient, showing concern and comfort for the patient and exercising exceptional customer service skills

  • Arrange for transportation of blood and body fluid under proper conditions and in a timely and safe manner and maintains specimen log sheets accurately

  • Adheres to safety protocols and infection control guidelines

  • Prioritizes assigned work and exhibits superior quality in that work

  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • At least 18 years of age

Education

  • Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program OR-

  • Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience OR-

  • Enrollment in MLT or MLS program, including completion of a phlebotomy course.

Experience

  • Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting

License/Certification/Registration

  • Must have valid Driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Additional Requirements : Must have access to reliable vehicle. Must be able to work flexible hours and at short notice. Knowledge of metro area and can follow driving directions.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in an Assisted Living Facility.

  • Experience working as a Phlebotomist in an Acute Care setting.

  • Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity

Preferred License/Certification/Registration

  • Phlebotomy Certification upon hire
