TPT/Twin Cities Public Television Intermittent Lighting Director in St. Paul, Minnesota

Description The Intermittent Lighting Director works to coordinate and execute the lighting design for studio productions and multicamera remote productions. This is a NABET union position. This position is part time intermittent; candidates are scheduled as needed, based on project needs. MAJOR AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (90% of time) Consult with producers about the production's technical and aesthetic requirements; advise producers on the best decisions to achieve productions goals Design and set up lighting scheme appropriate to the style of the production and meeting all technical broadcast requirements Operate lighting board and other instruments as needed for recorded and live broadcasts; apply mastery of the equipment and techniques to ensure the best possible product Function as leader of the assigned lighting crew; coordinate operations with the Producer and/or Director Participate as a member of the production planning team, contributing your special knowledge to ensure adequate preparation for production Ensure safe and proper handling of all gear in use Utilize TPT scheduling systems FACILITIES SUPPORT (5% of time) Monitor the condition of technical facilities; report needed maintenance and recommend upgrades/improvements that would improve performance Request time for maintenance as needed and perform it as scheduled Participate in new equipment testing and purchasing; provide a practitioner's perspective to help TPT make the best purchasing decisions Other duties as assigned (5% of time) Participate as an active member of the Production Services Team; contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities Complete all production-related paperwork (e.g. work-order sign-offs, repair requests, supply purchases) Advise and/or train other production staff members Keep abreast of technical developments related to electronic graphics Rate of Pay: Approximately $56.52 an hour and per the NABET Union scale QUALIFICATIONS Required Experience High School Diploma Minimum 5 years of experience lighting for a wide variety of television productions Preferred Experience Bachelor's Degree Minimum 5 years of experience lighting for a wide variety of television productions Experience performing a variety of roles of television production involving a wide variety of programs Knowledge, skills and abilities: Expert ability to operate all TPT lighting instruments, boards, and related equipment Expert knowledge of studio lighting operations Strong visual communication skills (e.g. composition, lighting, exposure, focus) Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members Strong focus on audience and end user needs; ability to collaborate with content personnel on project expectations Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask in a fast-paced, time sensitive production environment Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) priorities within the organization Ability to travel to locations in the greater metro area on a frequent basis; occasional travel throughout Minnesota and outside the state Equal Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities The contractor will not discharge or in any other manner discriminate against employees or applicants because they have inquired about, discussed, or disclosed their own pay or the pay of another employee or applicant.
