Responsibilities

The Physician Associate/Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will provide direct care to infants, children and adolescents in the outpatient pediatric GIH clinic. The role will include care of patients with general pediatric GIH disorders (constipation, reflux, abdominal pain, etc.) as well as potentially a variety of subspecialty GIH conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, and other conditions as the clinical needs of the division demand. Care will include longitudinal management and will involve facilitating communication between Mayo and referring physicians.

The provision of care includes but is not limited to comprehensive assessment and physical examination; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; diagnosing and directly managing acute and chronic disease; promoting wellness; prescription of pharmacologic agents, treatments, and non-pharmacologic therapies; care coordination; and counseling and education for patients and families. The NP or PA is also encouraged to participate in education, quality improvement and research projects as appropriate to the clinical setting.

The NP or PA will work in a team-based environment including physicians in the division, other allied health staff on the team, and learners including fellows and residents. The Pediatric GIH division consists of 9 consultant physicians, 3 NP PA, and 9 nurses.

Qualifications

NP: Masters prepared graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and nurse practitioner program, qualified to care for children. Current Minnesota RN license and certification or eligible to be certified as a PNP or FNP.

PA: Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program with current PA certification by the NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (or eligible).

Prefer pediatric gastroenterology experience or adult gastroenterology experience. Ability to problem-solve, work both independently and collaboratively, and assume responsibility for patient and family interactions. Candidate should possess excellent communication skills for effective work with patients/families and for collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Must be eligible for DEA registration.
