Responsibilities

Our cardiovascular surgery OR NP/PA works primarily as a first assistant in our busy cardiovascular surgery practice. The NP/PA will work collaboratively with our surgeons, resident/fellows, nurses, and other staff to provide intraoperative care for our complex surgical patients. This role requires timely assessments, interventions, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions before, during, and after surgical interventions. Pre-operative and post-operative patient and family education regarding recovery and disease process is also a crucial part of health promotion for our patients.

  • Dedicated time for first assist in operating room including focus on our growing minimally invasive/robotic cardiac surgery

  • Full scope of cardiovascular surgery practice

  • Operating room: 5 days per week

Qualifications

Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner. Current Minnesota RN license and certification as an FNP; Doctorate of Nursing Practice preferred. Prior RNFA program completion recommended for NP candidates.

Or

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and licensure as a PA by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

NP or PA with prior paid surgical assist experience required. Cardiac surgery and prior robotic/minimally invasive surgery experience strongly preferred.

The NP PA must be eligible for DEA registration.

Possess ability to work independently/autonomously and interdependently with other health care professionals. Have extensive patient assessment skills using diagnostic methods and instruments and possess ability to develop appropriate plan of care, modifying as indicated. Possess effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with patients, families and members of health care team.
