Primary Responsibilities:
Execute delivery of legal services and related support to UnitedHealthcare’s regulatory affairs organization
Drive implementation of new legislation, including mental health parity legislation
Counsel senior management on regulatory matters and risk mitigation
Provide legal support to regulatory issues, including market conduct exams and regulatory complaints
Serve as lead legal support for West Region exams, including negotiation of resolutions with regulators related to audits, exams or other inquiries
Counsel on mental health parity related inquiries and assist with parity related analysis and risk mitigation
Draft exam and audit responses, consent orders and settlement agreements
Support key areas for regulatory advocacy with federal and state agencies
Collaborate with colleagues across the UnitedHealth Group’s legal and compliance departments
Help foster key regulatory relationships

Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate degree
Current license to practice law in one or more US jurisdictions
5+ years of legal experience
2+ years of experience in at least one of the following areas:
Litigation
Health Parity
Healthcare insurance
Preferred Qualifications:
Legal experience in health law or commercial healthcare insurance
Experience with regulatory agencies
Experience with mental health parity program compliance
Background in litigation or audit support
Understanding of health insurance and/or the managed care industry
Understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects and ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needs
Proven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment
Proven ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $122,100 to $234,700 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
