Fairview Health Services Prescription Assistance Specialist in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

Do you have at least 2 years of experience working in a complex office support/coordination/advocate role? We at MHealth Fairview are looking for you to join our team! This benefits eligible (https://www.fairview.org/benefits/noncontract) position is a 1.0FTE (80 hours/2 weeks) on the day shift!

Work proactively with low income patients who have high prescription drug costs to explore options to reduce their overall prescription costs. Enter and maintain patient information in database to access pharmaceutical assistance programs, renew applications and provide reports as needed.

Responsibilities Job Description

Administer Prescription Assistance Program so that eligible patients are able to receive prescription drugs at no cost.

  • Determine Fairview patients’ eligibility status for the prescription assistance program by conducting intake with patients referred by Fairview clinics/ pharmacies and expressing the need for prescription assistance. Screen patients regarding financial information including gross household income and insurance coverage, and requests appropriate financial and insurance documents.

  • Obtain patients’ medications list in Epic to determine those that might be eligible for prescription assistance programs and, in some cases converting generic names to brand names to make them eligible for assistance.

  • Determine which patients qualify for assistance based on information provided.

  • Research and work with providers to reduce overall drug expense for individual patients.

  • Decide best option for patient and inform patient of options to access prescriptions at no cost.

  • Complete applications for prescription assistance programs.

  • Document and track all activities in Epic, Prescription Assistance software, and in hard copy.

  • Process refills for eligible patients.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues/problems with patients receiving prescription medications.

  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and obtain appropriate releases

Provide thorough communication and respond to inquiries of patients and care teams.

  • Access, maintain, and update patient information in database and in Epic so that care teams are kept informed and information is tracked.

  • Complete and submit new and renewal applications timely.

  • Provide clear communication, both written and verbal, to patients and providers so that the process, timelines and medication details are understood.

  • Consult with pharmacist when there are no clear medication alternatives available to fit program requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum

Education:

High School Diploma/GED

Experience:

2 or more years experience in complex office support/coordination/advocate role

Minimum 6 months working with health insurance

License/Certification/Registration: None

Preferred

Education:

Post High school education or training

Completion of pharmacy technical program

Experience:

2 or more years experience pharmacy related complex office support/coordination/advocate role

6 months pharmacy related experience with understanding brand and generic medications

License/Certification/Registration:

MN Board of Pharmacy registration
