The individual in this position is expected to provide both strategic and operational support for the department and understand the financial requirements of collegiate food service industry, purchasing process, general accounting functions and to develop appropriate management and financial reporting, analysis, and transactional documentation. This position reports to the Associate Director of Finance supporting Auxiliary Services. The position carries a high degree of independent judgment and is expected to act on behalf of the Associate Director of Finance as appropriate. Operations Support (30%) Provide support to Contract Administration and U Card Office for ongoing operations, and resource planning and evaluation. Develop benchmarks and operational productivity measures and analyze and report on business unit performance. Provide management with financial information, analysis, and recommendations to guide decision making. Act as the Contract Administration and U Card Office financial expert, ensuring financial requirements in contracts are being met. Meet with operational directors to monitor and manage finance activities and benchmarks. Coordinate communications and analysis with operations leadership in support of vendor engagement and management. Accounting and Financial Support (20%) Oversee day to day activity ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness in recording of Contract Administration and U Card Office activity. Prepare reports for the Controller's Office and respond to their requests for additional information. Proactive involvement with new programs, procedures, and processes to ensure proper accounting treatment and proper controls are in place. Support the financial review of RFP submissions and responses. Review and approve financial transactions in PeopleSoft. Ensure compliance with university policies, federal laws and state laws. Analysis and Reporting (20%) Develop, review, and analyze complex management and financial reporting and recommendations for Contract Administration and UCard. Analyze monthly financial and operational information against prior year and budget to identify changes and/or trends. Provide performance data through analysis of monthly financial and operational information. Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with management to review the financial statements, to identify issues, and to provide explanations of variances and insights into the financial impacts of the performance of the department. Budget Development (15%) Develop the annual budget for Contract Administration and U Card Office operations. Provide analysis and recommendations for revenue and expense projections, capital plan, cash flow and rate increases. Educate management regarding effective financial management practices and trends. Finance Staff Supervision (15%) Supervise Finance Professional staff members. They are responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly financial activity, reconciliations, and benchmark data recording. Provide feedback and encourage continuous development through opportunities, training and education. Qualifications Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field * Six years professional accounting or finance experience * Ability to analyze financial data * Ability to manage large complex budgets, including the analysis and review process * Excellent communication skills, both verbal & written * Proficiency using spreadsheets, databases, and reporting software Preferred Qualifications * CPA * Experience with recording and analyzing college food service and campus card office transactions * Advanced query writing, good grasp of reporting software applications and database table structure * Demonstrated aptitude for report writing * Demonstrated experience working independently and managing multiple deadlines and priorities * Experience with fund accounting Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
