Department Details

We are a Critical Access Hospital in a rural setting. This position is an integral part of our surgical team. We care for patients undergoing a variety of procedures including GI, General surgery, OB/GYN, Urology, and Ophthalmology. Experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right applicant. Certification as a surgical technician is required at hire or expected to be completed within 1 year of employment.

Scheduled work hours will vary dependent on patient needs.

Job Summary

Surgical technologists are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. An applicant will perform a variety of tasks including scrubbing for cases, reprocessing and managing sterile instrumentation, handling, maintaining, and re-processing endoscopic equipment, and ordering/maintaining supplies related to surgery. In this position you will work closely with surgeons, anesthesia, nurses, as well as other health care personnel. Great communication skills, a willingness to learn, and work well by yourself as well as in a team environment are a must. This position requires an ability to operate various operating room equipment/supplies and an ability to type and use a computer. A sense of responsibility and a high degree of knowledge for maintaining sterile technique and sterile field management are required as is maintaining strict patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

Graduate of an approved school of surgical technology. National certification required up hire, or must obtain within 1 year of employment.

Experience in an operating room setting is preferred. Must have a good knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical and surgical terminology, instrumentation, aseptic techniques, and surgical procedures acquired through post-secondary training.

Basic Life Support (BLS) required within first 60 days of employment into position.

Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
