This position exists to perform general repair duties, preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs to college building components, physical plant, energy management systems, auxiliary generator, college equipment, plumbing, and utilities. Position will also assist in minor construction projects, remodeling and related duties for campus consisting of 12 major buildings, a Power and Chiller Plant.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.

  • Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.

  • Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.\Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending.

Physical Requirements

  • Must possess physical health and endurance sufficient to use hand tools and power tools.

  • Needs to be able to perform work functions using step ladders, extension ladders, personal lifts and scaffolding.

  • Must be able to work in adverse/extreme weather conditions outdoors.

  • Position may require; walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.

  • Ability to perform strenuous manual labor including but not limited to; digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing, work above the shoulders, walk stairways and climb ladders.

  • Must be able to work on feet for eight hours a day and lift up to fifty pounds.

Additional Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
