The human resources generalist partners with management and stakeholders to provide expertise in recruitment, selection, and hiring of a diverse and talented workforce. This position provides expertise in management consultation, performance management, discipline, and investigations. Additionally, the HR generalist will provide support on leaves, reasonable accommodations, special projects, and other areas. Duties & Responsibilities These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Identify management needs and assist in human resources areas such as workforce planning, staffing utilization, and policy interpretation and enforcement. 2. Assess appropriate methods for recruiting and selecting applicants, work with departments to post jobs, and manage hiring processes. 3. Consult and collaborate on compensation, classification, benefits, leaves, and labor relations. 4. Advise and partner with management on performance management, policy interpretation and professional development. 5. Assist managers and supervisors to establish work goals and standards, and recommended approaches for assisting with resolving performance problems to improve productivity. 6. In consultation with department management, recommend disciplinary actions and advises department management with regard to disciplinary policies and procedures. 7. Advise departments regarding HR laws and regulations and provide guidance to ensure compliance with HR policies and practices. 8. Independently manage assigned projects and initiatives. 9. HRIS transactions and reporting. 10. Other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1-9 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment Experience in staffing, recruitment, performance management, and other core human resources functions. Application of employment laws, rules, regulations, practices, and principles. General knowledge of public sector recruitment and selection procedures/practices. Knowledge of relevant Federal and State employment laws AND Public Employees Labor Relations Act (PELRA). Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and HRIS systems. Ability to work efficiently and independently on multiple projects simultaneously. Proven record of providing excellent service to internal and external stakeholders. Excellent communication oral and written communication skills and the ability to deliver messages and communications professionally and positively. Use discretion and confidentiality. Ability to identify and recommend process improvements and opportunities to gain efficiency. Ability to effectively work with applicants, employees and the general public in responding to inquiries and issues Skill in reading comprehension sufficient to review and interpret written documents (e.g. position descriptions, correspondence, surveys, etc.) Work Environment Sedentary or light physical requirements including a lifting requirement of up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include a laptop, printer, telephone, copier, fax, and calculator.
