Saint John's University Faculty Resident in Collegeville, Minnesota

The Residential Life Department at Saint John's University invites applications for a part-time (0.315 FTE) position of Faculty Resident. Faculty Residents are monks and laymen grounded in Benedictine values who are commissioned to provide pastoral outreach to resident students through the ministry of teaching, mentorship, and life-skills coaching. Faculty Residents seek to model for students and strengthen within them honest self-understanding, a capacity for listening to the voice of God, and the habit of reflecting on the meaning of one s existence in the context of community and service to the common good. Faculty Residents teach, mentor and coach students to develop and strengthen life skills promoted by the Saint John s University Residential Curriculum. Through their ministry, Faculty Residents assist students in forming communities built on respect for others, respect for this place, and openness to diverse ideas and beliefs. They provide a friendly and welcoming presence among residents and work closely with other faculty and staff to encourage and promote strong academic performance and positive character-development in each resident student. Faculty Residents report to the Director of Residential Life and Housing. Responsibilities Select, mentor, supervise, and assist Resident Assistants (RAs) on instructing resident students about the goals and expectations of the residential curriculum Connect with each resident student for ongoing mentorship and assessment of goals and progress on personal and academic development as well as community engagement and responsibilities Being visible and present in the community in ways that invite and strengthen meaningful interaction--spending significant and meaningful time in his area and with his residents Teaching residents healthy coping, self-advocacy, and help-seeking strategies for managing stress and achieving goals Teaching and promoting community-building skills through participation in activities and programming that support student development learning goals Teaching skills for character development that are consistent with Benedictine values through the adjudication of alleged violations of student life policies Teaching about, promoting, and encouraging the use of various campus resources and opportunities for personal, academic, social and spiritual growth Working to create a healthy community environment, including maintaining appropriate quiet time, cleanliness, and physical upkeep Working collaboratively with the Residential Life and Housing Office, service on committees and task force groups, and the ability to following policies and procedures established by the department Attending regularly scheduled staff meetings, including retreats and workshops and participating in campus events.
