Regions Hospital Manager, Hospital Medicine Operations in Bloomington, Minnesota

HealthPartners is hiring for a Manager of Hospital Medicine. The Manager of Hospital Medicine Operations responsibilities are to support HealthPartners Medical Group's quality, financial and service goals through professional management for the department practices. This role serves as the main point of contact for operationalizing practice-related initiatives involving the HPMG Hospital Medicine Department. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Responsible for the supervision of staff, including having the authority to hire, transfer, lay off, promote, discipline and discharge, train, reward and review performance of employees. Ensures compliance to organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Management of all aspects of the practice operation for the 100+ providers in the Hospital Medicine Department. Including, but not limited to: Implementation of process improvements to assist Hospital Medicine providers to gain efficiency in the operations of daily patient care in the acute care hospital setting. Management of the licensure, credentialing, and continuing education processes for each of the providers within the division to ensure each practitioner is compliant and up-to date with the necessary documentation to meet practice and regulatory rules in the area of patient care. Daily communication with Hospital Medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician's assistants to answer questions and problem solve issues affecting their practice. Maintain key relationships with hospital partners to ensure smooth daily operations. Technical expert in developing and monitoring departments' budget performance. Attention to detail in calculations needed to populate department budgets into the organizationally supported budgeting systems (e.g. Cognos) Expert in data analysis to monitor budget performance and problem-solving skills on variances. Knowledge in Horizon Business Insights Explorer database system. Verify and approve monthly invoices from contracted vendors. Experience in forecasting and development of short and long-range business and strategic plans Management and administration of the hospital medicine physician compensation system which includes the following: Collection of data and analysis and interpretation of market information. Communication with other HPMG departments to ensure consistency and fairness from the entire medical group perspective. Monitoring and validation of the compensation payout process to ensure accuracy. Researching with external agencies other models for market competitive compensation used in the national hospitalist community. Verification and facilitation for distribution of productivity reports. Planning and participation in the Hospital Medicine Compensation Committee meetings. Support the academic mission of the Hospital Medicine Department through the administration of the Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship in Hospital Medicine Program. This includes, in partnership with clinician leaders, the development and implementation of the fellowship curriculum, management of a separate budget related to the program, selection and recruitment of fellowship candidates, and management of the fellow's clinical schedule as well as their continuing education and training requirements. Oversee and manage schedules for the hospitalists, advanced practice provider and clinic physicians no less than 9 hospitals. This accountability is critical in ensuring that there is adequate physician coverage at each hospital to ensure safe, timely, efficient, effective, and patient-centered care. Responsibilities to assure the success of this process include the following: Excellent communication skills and relationship building skills to manage the schedules of over 100 physicians at multiple sites within the entire HPMG system Ability to problem solve and clearly communicate in conflict-prone situations for mutually successful outcomes. Accurate record keeping and attention to detail to manage the complex and dif ering shift structure at each hospital Troubleshooting, in partnership with the team to find coverage when unanticipated staffing gaps appear. Partner with the Department Chair, Chiefs, Leads, and Director in the following: Develop models that predict and inform long range staffing and budget needs Development of meeting agendas and facilitation of key meetings Communication of performance to multiple audiences on key indicators. Implementation of the organization's initiative to support the four dimensions: People, Health, Experience and Stewardship. Creation of new physician orientation and training materials. Direct oversight of the supervisor and support his/her role of oversight of advanced practice providers Work collaboratively with the supervisor and Chiefs to ensure advanced practice provider team is meeting key clinical and coverage accountabilities. Continually work with the supervisor and team of 15+ advanced practice providers to ensure coverage and support in key co-management service lines. Oversee the development of a scheduled for the advanced practice providers that promotes work life balance and sustainability, including shifts and hours and associated compensation. Work closely with the Chiefs and Department Chair as needed on any performance improvement opportunities for advanced practice providers. Facilitate timely annual performance reviews with Chiefs for clinical reviews and submission to HR. Support program growth and development of key hospital medicine programs, including but not limited to the partnership with Children's Hospital and Mercy Hospital, mental health co-management, palliative care, and the peri-operative program. Managed shared call and rounding schedules with partner hospitals. Manage all aspects of operations to ensure health, experience and stewardship outcomes. Coordinate with administrative leaders of other hospitals to ensure coverage. Project management of key operational work teams to ensure partner hospitals and Regions Hospital meet and exceed their goals. Projects include, but are not limited to: Access and Flow, including timely discharge Patient experience Telemedicine expansion Management of work flow and direct supervision of Supervisor of Hospital Medicine and Supervisor RHSC and APP's Management of Hospital Medicine charge entry process with the Revenue Cycle team and outside agencies, as appropriate, day to day collaboration of Hospital Medicine and Compliance staff Assures compliance with the organization's policies, procedures and regulatory agencies. Participates in creation and updating of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans and tests.
