We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Controller to oversee and manage all aspects of construction accounting and financial management within our organization. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of construction accounting principles, project management, and financial reporting. This role will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial information related to construction projects, support strategic decision-making, and contribute to the overall financial health of the company. The Construction Controller will also oversee site accountants and manage billing and collections functions. - Prepare and analyze construction work in progress, including contracts with complex terms, over and underbilling, and project cashflow. - Monitor and report on project budgets, forecasts, and variances to identify potential profit gains and losses. - Develop and implement financial models to assess project profitability and financial risks. - Oversee the tracking and allocation of project costs, including labor, materials, subcontractor expenses, and overheads. - Collaborate with project managers to develop and manage project budgets and forecasts. - Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records. - Coordinate with external auditors during audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations. - Review and interpret construction contracts to ensure accurate financial terms and conditions are incorporated into project accounting. - Monitor contract performance and assess financial impacts of contract modifications or claims. - Oversee the coordination of site accounting activities with the central finance team to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting. - Manage the billing process for construction projects, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing of clients. - Work closely with clients and internal teams to resolve billing issues and disputes. - Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance efficiency. - Develop and implement best practices for construction accounting, reporting, and billing. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA designation preferred. - Minimum of [5-7] years of experience in construction accounting or finance, with a focus on job cost accounting. - Proven experience managing a team, including site accountants. - Proficiency in accounting software and construction management systems (e.g., Procore, Sage 300 Construction, Viewpoint). - Strong knowledge of construction industry standards, contract types, and project management practices. - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
