The new Minnesota Veterans Home (MVH)-Bemidji is growing and seeking to fill a Registered Nurse Supervisor position!

The position provides clinical supervisory oversight of technical nursing staff in the delivery of quality care to the residents of the home. Directs and implements the Minimum Data Set (MDS) process and care planning process, per federal guidelines, to meet the residents' physical and psychosocial needs. The position performs Officer of the Day (OD) duties as assigned, which may include a rotation of on-call support to the home amongst nursing leaders.

The responsibilities of the position includes:

  • Supervising Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants/Human Services Technicians to ensure employees effectively perform assigned job duties.

  • Guiding and coordinating with staff on completing the Minimum Data Set/Resident Assessment Instrument per regulatory guidelines.

  • Providing clinical guidance, oversight and support for the daily operations of the nursing unit.

  • Providing guidance to the nursing department team regarding state and federal regulatory requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license without restrictions.

  • Four years of experience as a RN, including two years of RN experience in a long-term healthcare setting. ( Note: A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of the RN experience requirement. A Master’s degree in nursing may substitute for 18 months of the RN experience requirement.)

  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Knowledge of Minimum Data Set (MDS) and Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) processes sufficient to obtain MDS/RAI certification within the probationary period.

  • Human relations and leadership skills sufficient to effectively direct, guide, influence and supervise nursing department staff.

  • Communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with others and prepare and present information to various individuals and groups.

  • Skills in clinical documentation and computer applications, including an electronic health record system such as PointClickCare, to document and ensure staff are documenting resident care in an accurate, complete and timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising other nursing staff and performing supervisory responsibilities, such as hiring and employee performance management.

  • Experience leading other nursing staff as a charge/lead nurse.

  • Bachelor or advanced degree in nursing.

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to skilled nursing facilities and state survey.

  • Experience facilitating a quality assurance/improvement project and knowledge in healthcare-related quality data measures.

  • Leadership experience in a union environment.

Additional Requirements

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.

  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
